What a cool video…
I tripped on a very inspiring video recently.
It’s Sting going through his songwriting process on his guitar and drum machine. Very cool stuff and VERY inspiring.
Check it out below.

OMG!

This was really nice!

You know, it’s nice to see that even the pros go through the same kind of “hit & miss” process, as all we amateurs do at times.
I’ve written several tunes using this technique, and it definitely works very well.
Great video.

Thank you so much Shamir, It is always inspiring to to see the human side of the gods, and to fortify the fact that there are no gods-just us having fun.
February 10th, 2009 at 5:26 pm

Excllent step by step talk-through of how to build a song up from the initial first flash of inspiration. Sting very inspirational and exhaustive in his talk about songwriting. I shall go away and write my first hit song tonight! His lyrics on his songs are also first rate.
Many thanks for this Shamir. It was so cool.

How old is Sting in this video, and why isn’t he wearing pants? (yet another secret to successful songwriting?)
February 11th, 2009 at 12:43 am
Shamir,
Thanks for sending this one out. Excellent interview and, I agree, very inspiring.
February 11th, 2009 at 1:46 am
Does he know he has his hat on backwards; was he making a fashion statement or does he just not care……Obviously the hat didn’t go with the rest of his ‘attire’ so it was probably a statement thing….Who was the other guy. I was hoping he’d play the sax…then when he put it down at the end I thought, maybe that was Sting’s too and he was just holding it to be cool….

Thanks Shamir, it helps to have someone there constantly nagging you that “you can do it” when your dream is to write songs, play music, but you end up finding all kinds of excuses not to get to it! It is a daunting task because songs can be so powerful in so many ways…
Enough said, keep at it, I appreciate your presence in my inbox!

Lots of information in this video. Seemed he was very relaxed and spoke honestly. Very good tips too. I guess I need to add a musical instrument to my lyrics, instead of depending on someone else for the musical addtion.
As always, thanks for the info.
