I’ve chosen a new blog title

A couple of weeks ago I asked you to help me name my blog. Here’s the original post I made:
http://songwritingtipsonline.com/blog/04/your-opinion

Well, I’ve chosen a title! As you can see, I’ve titled the blog ‘Songwriting & Beyond…’

This is PERFECT for me as it encapsulates what I’m about. I like it alot. :-)

It’s simple, I know… but it’s RIGHT for I’m about.

I also want to say thanks for everybody who helped me with this. I’ve had over 300 comments on my previous post, and boy I’ve never had that much since I’ve had this blog online. So wow!

I had no idea that so many of you cared :-) What a great feeling.

There are a couple of people who hammered this title in my brain, and these people are:

Waleed Muhammad
Dominick

Thanks guys!

I’ve also taken mental notes of what everyone else had to say.

Douglas Bamlett said…

“Songwriting and beyond” is ok but lacks punch. There is not much of a hook there if any.

…Douglas, I know exactly what you mean. Thing is, I had to choose something that inspired ME to post as well as others to know what my blog is all about. It was a fine balance I had to strike. But your words (and your lengthy comment post) was well noted. I sincerely thank you for that :-)

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

I’ll be posting soon..

Shamir

    Shamir:

I think it’s the perfect title! Naming a blog is kinda like trying to title a song, no? Everything has to be encapsulated in that title. I’m happy for you that you’ve finally given your blog a name.

Keep up the good work. I love your e-mails!
    Marion

  2. eva Says:

    He,

    What about
    “songwriting for the wireless wannabe”?

  3. eva Says:

    songwriting for the new millenium

    beautiful isnt it?

  4. June Says:

Beyond What? The Blue Horizon ? I do not think it is very dynamic (excuse the pun) You need something which will hit you on the jaw as soon as you see it on your e-mail. But it is up to you to choose whatever title you are happy with.
    Cheers June

  5. Shamir Says:

June,’ beyond’ meaning ’singing, production, musical arrangement, playing instruments’, etc.

    That’s the ‘beyond’.

  6. Mark DeFazio Says:

Your blog title is fine. Afterall, it is merely a blog, not a doctorate thesis.

  7. Laura Says:

    I think it’s perfect.
Love the emails. Maybe one day, I’ll have a hit… actually, I’d just settle for a good song! :)

  8. Dave Ratcliffe Says:

    Shamir

This is OK, it doesn’t grab me but I can see where you are going with it.
It is a bit ambiguous but as Mark Defrazio says it is just a name, and word of mouth is a greater voice than any other.
    Good luck with it

    The content is everything!

    Lets go beyond

  9. Blair Says:

i love the title! it totally works for you!

  10. Ray Withrow Says:

I think it’ll work just fine! Beyond is just the right word to express ALL the things that go into the creation of a song - after the lyrics, & the music! There is still a LOT of work to do to make it into something somebody will WANT to hear! Thanks for, at least, giving me the chance to help you out naming it! Ray Withrow

  11. Ernest J. Walker Says:

Nice and simple! the way music should be! Peace!

  12. DOn Says:

    Works for me!

  13. Matts Says:

I think the name is perfect. It expresses everything that is also needed for a song besides the writing, and that in just a few powerful words!!

  14. Dawn M. Williams Says:

I think the new blog title is fantasic! As we all know sometimes less is very much more. I find it clear and yet expansive.

  15. Amos Flomo Says:

I think the tittle is great.
And i think everyone would agreed with me on that,
it explains what the website is about.
    So i think it perfect.
By the way how did you come up with that name for your blog?

  16. sunfly Says:

congrats yes obviously songwriting searchers will track site down.Well done on an appropriately valuable site.

  17. Ruthie Miller Says:

I also like the title of your blog. Unique and different.
Stands out on the page and helps ones imagination to think!
songwriting & beyond. beyond helps one to
add to what is the beyond. Many exciting adventures concerning great
music walking where you have never been as the ideas come to you
to set up as you feel. You knew it was time for a change with what you
already had (which was good) but to move into something different
and you were so kind to ask your friends to give you some ideas
and out of this came this unique title. so stay in touch with all of us that
love you and your thoughts in music that will help each of us with our
journey down the road of songwriting. The same day I got my course
and listen to you and the young man that was teaching how you both
wrote a song by showing all of us how it is done. The next day I was
waiting for someone and I had pencil and book and I begin to write a song. You motivated and inspired me to write and it happened.
A catch ie title in the first 30 seconds is best. so thank you for sharing
with all of us. continue to offer other courses that are reasonable so
we all can be wiser. thank you for your time and a chance to leave a message. http://www.hearandplay.com Jermaine Griggs would love to meet you. He features many artists and people buy his cd and DVD. They are
    good. signing off.

    nice!

  21. Danie van Loggerenberg Says:

    Great Choice of Title

  22. Noah Allen Says:

It’s sounds somewhat alright, but for the most part it sounds kind of plain and not very catchy. That’s just my opinion though.

  23. Glennys Briggs Says:

Hey Shamir, I love getting your emails and I think that your blog title is just right. It says enough without saying too much. Thanks for all your help.

    Cheers glennys

  24. Cnute Says:

Hey Man! Great Name maybe this can be the cross road where the musically incline will meet and do it

  25. Shamir Says:

You’re welcome Ray. I see this as somewhat of a community, so I like to get my people involved in this kind of stuff.

Ruthie, you’re right. I should contact Jermaine. He is extremely busy though… I will try. ;-)

Glennys, that’s EXACTLY what I was thinking. “It says enough without saying too much”. How cool.

  26. marvina stedge Says:

if you want my oppion..the title lacks sparkle you know like it doesn’t really make people want to come and see it but if you like it than you should stick with it.

  27. Iack Sack Says:

It’s your call man, the Star Trek bean heads should love it, Songwriting & Beyond… Proudly go where you can get a head fulla Martian Fiddle Tunes. Think about it, pretend you’re the dude shellin out the bucks, how much of that corn bread are ya gonna eat?

  28. Nancy Says:

    Sweet name xx !

  29. T Johnson Says:

    Once again, it would be:
Todd, after over 300 people giving me ideas about what
my blog should be called, I’ve chosen a title.

    NOT:

Todd, after over 300 people giving me idea’s about what
my blog should be called, I’ve chosen a title.

The editor should have caught this! No apostrophe is to be used for the plural of ‘ideas’! It is IDEAS!

    Nice title by the way.

  30. Evad Says:

Its fine by me very simple and beyond is infinity

  31. Emily Says:

Perfect! I am anxious to begin reading the beyond part of songwriting.
    Thanks for being BEYOND!

  32. Sara Says:

Mmm.. Songwriting and Beyond. I agree that it doesn’t exactly pack a punch, but you know what? It is exactly what your blog has to offer. The main idea may revolve around songwriting, but you share with us your thoughts about music, about life… I think you chose well, my friend.

  33. terry ford Says:

I think it is perfect for you, it explains what you do and what you can teach others to do. I really wish you well. Terry

  34. terry ford Says:

For the lady who asks what BEYOND means? I don’t know whether she is a lyric writer of what but. Every writer has what she regretfully doesn’t have, and that’s IMAGINATION, you need to have imagination to write music and lyrics if you don’t have it them you will never be able to write succesful songs. Cheers Terry Ford.

  35. lulu Says:

it so ok i guess. as long as you are satisfied with it. Personally i think its so so.

  36. paseka Says:

  43. Bob Says:

I think it’s a great name Shamir. The blog name gives us a starting point, songwriting, then pushes open a door and invites us to move onward, beyond, with you. Good choice. I enjoy the emails. they keep me stimulated. Maybe you have some tips about how to turn these grenades of scattered half-song ideas I’m writing into rockets that track right to the target…….

  44. Kara Jarry Says:

I, for one, love the title. It’s short, sweet, and to the point. As for it lacking punch, since when are blog titles supposed to have a punch? It’s not a joke, or a catch phrase, it’s a title. It’s something to tell you what it’s about, and that’s exactly what it does.

  45. Lynn Says:

I think it’s perfect for you! That title represents exactly what you’d like to portray: musical career, information for music opportunities and your schedule as well as periodical blogs. So, good luck!

  46. darklen Says:

    i love it:D

  47. Kimberley Says:

I like it. I agree with Kara Jarry; this is what I was going to mention, and as you already said, Shamir, It is a ‘blog title’; in which theres no need for it to be the catchiest thing ever, or the most clever or whatever. Personally, I think it fits extremely well for what you do (:
    Hope you all the best.

  48. Kimberley Says:

and to ‘dick ballz’, your name really suits you then (:
    Don’t be immature.

  49. Lizzi Doyle Says:

    i like the new name.
it really has a ring to it.
i love your emails, keep them coming.

The last time I wrote you, my comments to you were posted on several search engines under: thewisestwomanintheworld. (one word). Several of my encouragements to famous celebrities, have also been profound enough to reach the top of the search engines without my subscribing to them. So, thousands of people know about you now…So, again, you will blow u like you never dreamed…

  52. lorna Says:

hey it ok but you can do better sorry but i am telling the turth

  53. Annemarie Says:

The new name sounds pretty cool to me. It’s brief, which is important. It gives an accurate but brief idea of what you’re all about, without getting into too much “heavy” music “tech” speak, which could put some uninitiated potential creative genius off. And it is “open ended” enough to fire the artistic imagination of types likely to be curious about song writing and music generally… See how it goes, Shamir. You can always change it again if it doesn’t work this way. That’s one of the good things about being a creative mind…

  54. mpendulo Says:

Its cool I like it very much, I think its catchy Shamir so ya keep it maybe u can change it later if u like it but this one is simple but somehow profound for me, what i like the most about it is that its open ended…..

  55. tamika crawford Says:

I really think that what you are doing is cool. I am looking foward to shareing some of my own written lyrics on your web site………………….

  56. Claude Marnewick Says:

    Hi. Sir

I first need to thank you for helping looking deep in side myself to find that little creativity. My language skills are not that good but i really try my best when writting my songs and poems. I actually believe that poetry is also music and listen very carefully to song and enjoy the full meaning of the songs. I bought myself a casio key board but what do i know of notes. I make up melodies in my head and write the songs down. I decided to buy myself a recoder to record the melodies but that wiil only be in a months times and i hope by then I can still remember the melodies.
With the stressful job and working hours a persons have that little time during breaks to write.
At home I have two look after three boys and as a single parent I have no time to write but it I get that break I normal just sit down just write.

Anyway thanks for your help and i think your name blog name is great.

    keep up the goodwork

    Claude Marnewick

  57. Shamir Says:

Claude, thanks a lot. Stuff like that means more to me than people realize.

  60. LosAngeles Says:
